1896 Queen Victoria Old Head Silver Four Coin Maundy Set In Near Mint To Mint Condition.This is a lovely high grade set. All four coins are bright with sharp details. There are some extremely light contact marks on some of the coins. There is toning starting to appear on each of these silver coins.The set comes presented in a plastic case that holds all four silver coins.The 1896 maundy coin set was struck in 0.925 silver by the Royal Mint. The Obverse of each coin features the older crowned and veiled bust (‘Old Head’) of Queen Victoria facing left, with legend around. The reverse features a crowned denomination dividing date within an oak wreath.Maundy money is struck in denominations of one penny, twopence, threepence, and fourpence. Until the 18th century the coins were given from the circulating coinage, and it was not until the latter half of the century that the four Maundy coins developed as distinct, noncirculating pieces.
