The word “Darlehnskassenschein”, when broken down, is in fact Loans Certificate of Deposit. This small denomination banknote was issued in East Posen which was a district of Prussia. In the modern world the area is known as Poland. These notes were issued by the German Armed Forces in the occupied countries to the east to take control of the banking after they had disassembled the internal banking structures of the countries they had occupied. The note is one of the more highly sought after. Not only for its low denomination but for the fact that good examples such as this are at a collectors premium.
