2012 Kookaburra Map Shaped $1 Silver Coin

$ 97.24

Following up on the release of the map shaped coin from the Shanghai World Expo in 2010 is this coin comes this wonderful series. This coin is the first in this series of iconic Australian animals with the kangaroo, emu and platypus set to follow. For this release, Peng Peng, the Australian Pavilion’s kookaburra mascot has been replaced with an idyllic rural scene and far more realistic engraving of our much loved kookaburra. I doubt if any other bird other than the American eagle has had its image represented more often in numismatic varieties over the years, The strike on these 1 oz pure silver bullion quality coins is outstanding. Made in the shape of the Australian continent, the coin’s reverse portrays the kookaburra and also incorporates The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark. It is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, whilst the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2012 year-date.  The coin is encapsulated and comes in its original packaging with plush style clam case and certificate. Certificate numbers will vary from the picture shown here. A real numismatic novelty that is highly collectible and a great investment piece. A lovely item to add both colour and interest to any collection.
